SURISS ("Mice" in Mantaten)
Goals: Support and nurture those with the gift of psionicism
Since the overthrow of the Psionic Oligarchy and the adoption of
the Tempet Convenant, those endowed with Psionic powers have been
unwelcome, or even hunted down and killed in almost every nation.
Founded in 2837, the Suriss acts as a highly secretive network of
supporters, mentors and fellow psionicists to that are fortunate
enough to be found by this society prior to other members of the public.
The Society's paranoia runs deep, and a structure of isolated cells
run by messages from double blind drop boxes, secluded masked meetings,
and Mindlink communications all help to keep them secure. Found throughout
Trishore, the Suriss bear no outward or physical sign of their affiliation,
and may be of any race, alignment or profession. Within the Suriss there is
little hierarchy, and certainly no central command, but a few wealthier and
more powerful members act as go-betweens from cell to cell and nation to nation.
The Suriss finds itself divided into three groups, the Black, the Grey and the White.
The Black Suriss desire retribution against those that have hunted and hurt them for
so long, and perhaps even dominion over them if the psionicists can gather enough power.
The Grey Suriss believe that the laws should be changed and that psionicists deserve
equality with all other humans and demi-humans, but those changes would be enough for the
wrongs done them in the past. Finally, the White Suriss are more or less content
to let matters evolve, as they will, but that whatever happens they will continue to use
their powers for the good of their communities and fellow human beings.
Given their unique talents the Suriss are more aware of many other Secret Societies than
vice versa. For example, the Black Suriss have made considerable (and some successful) efforts
to infiltrate the Chang Mai San, wishing to partake (to the Suriss' advantage) in their darkest
long-term plans. They have some knowledge of the Fellowship of Bards, but all but the Black Suriss
believe that the Bards are favourably inclined towards the Suriss. The Black Suriss alone are
aware of the Li Kurang.
